Everytime I double click any program from my desktop apart from IE,I get this message:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Create an association in the Set Association control panel."

This has also affected my ability to update AVG and adaware as when I click"run"in the downloading box the same dialogue box appears as above.

Obviously I have hit some malware of some kind in the last few weeks,I usually do an AVG scan and Adaware scan every week or so but it hasn`t helped.

If I right click and select start on say"world of warcraft"untill today it would work.Today a major patch is being downloaded and after about 5 seconds the downloader screen just disappears.

Any help would be appreciated.

It can happen. I had a nice virus the other day the hooked into the exe loader and started itself. Fun, fun.

Anyway, you want something to re-associate file extensions.

Grab the exe one from here, unpack and run the .reg, and when you're up an running, get thee virus tested and tighten up your usage so it doesn't happen again.

Hi,thanks for the quick response,I followed your instructions and then did as instructed on the site.Unfortunately the file I downloaded won`t open either due to the same issue, even after trying the taskmanager thing. :(

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Bum.

The contents of the .reg are below, normally these would be imported into regedit, either manually or by double-clicking on a .reg file.

If you can't get regedit up and running, then I don't know how you're going to sort this other than reinstalling windows.

If you can get regedit running, try file + import this;

Sounds like your windows installation has well and truly gone ti ts up

Try and source some installation media and do a fresh install, trust me you will not regret it, all this faffing around over problems that are too intricate are a waste of time, I work in IT for 8 years and this kind of fault is not looked into, takes 10 minutes from a back-up image and BAM user is back working again

If you need help finding installation disks let me know

Hope that helps

You only have to question your own aptitude to know whether that is a good idea, me personally think you should fix it yourself, what's the worst that can happen it's already in a bad state

If you have access to a PC and is able to download and burn a CD/DVD depending on the version of windows then your all set

I can give you all the advice and steps you need, once you know how it is done it will save you a lot of money

Anyone can do this kind if stuff

Let me know what you think
