Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help?
I'm doing a loft conversion and as part of floor strengthening, I am installing some large beams between the party wall and the internal masonry walls. I would like some advice on how to set the pre cast lintel (which is generally acting as a padstone to support the ends of the beams) on top of the existing masonry walls/ party walls, the reason I'm asking is that the pad stone specified is only 145mm deep, the wall that will be supporting the lintel/ padstone terminates 15mm or so beneath the underside of the first floor joists, the floor joists are 150mm deep and thus if I set the lintel/ padstone on the wall, the top of the lintel/ padstone will be lower than the top of the joists. In addition to this, the beam that the lintel/ padstone will support must clear the floor joists by 15mm to allow for beam deflection. Any ideas?
Thanks alot for your help.
Oliver.
