Have foolishly applied oil based Dulux Trade Primer over knotting .Primer will not dry.Any clues how I can put this right ?

You've done it the right way, the knotting has to go on raw wood first then when that's dry you prime the woodwork. It an stay tacky over the knots for a bit. You could rub some meths across the knots which will take off a bit of the shellac, assuming its a shellac based knotting.

Most knotting is shellac based, you can get it in clear as well as the yellowy coloured stuff. It will say on the bottle what it is.
