problem with pump

Yes, pump does cold water too. We are rural but have a mains water supply. As I understand it , we have a pumped water system because pressure would be low because of the size of the house. It is a bungalow in the shape of an L.

Sounds like a specialist job. try posting some pictures, that may get some replies. Otherwise I would have a word with your water supplier and ask them if they service these pumps. I always thought that pumping cold water was not permitted.

When I say pumped water system, I think I am misleading you. For example, if we have a power cut we can only get water in the kitchen and downstairs toilet as there is no electricity to get the water to the upstairs bathroom and other downstairs bathroom as it gets "pumped" there. Does this make sense?

Engineer been today. Our water system works like this... Tank in loft above garage which feeds into another tank in loft in house (both lofts on same level). This second tank has no pressure and when he repressurised it, the pressure went down again almost immediately. He thinks it might be the return valve ? so is coming back tomorrow to replace this and see. Otherwise it might be the tank which is apparently rather unusual and so would mean a special (and no doubt expensive) order. Does this seem reasonable? The whole system is only 3years old...

Accumulator perhaps? It's a sealed unit - no ballcock. Label on it saying it should be repressurised every 3 months
