Hi all,

I know it's an old boiler but I can't afford a new one yet I'm afraid!

During the summer I had a diverter valve replaced because the only time I could get hot water as if the heating was on. All through the summer I could turn on the hot taps and it would heat up no problem (normally within 60 secs).

Now I have had to put the heating on every now and then over the last few weeks. It's can take several minutes for the water to heat up. My trick is to turn on full flow, then half it until the water heats up!

Can anyone tell me if my diverter valve is going again or it it time to change the boiler?

Thanks!
Paul Morris

My suggestion would be for you to call whoever changed the diverter valve.

Let me explain, changing the diverter valve on your boiler is a tricky task and requires removal of the gas valve. Its an old boiler and any engineer who agrees to change the diverter should realise that he is potentially letting himself in for a lot of other problems because of the age.

After fitting the new diverter he should have fully checked the performance and advised you of the general condition. In all probability he was so relieved to have completed the job he would have taken the money and run before it developed another fault.

Although we will repair any boiler with your model we do advise replacement as a better financial option in view of the age.

You say that you cannot afford a new boiler! I always treat that with a pinch of salt!

Last week I went to an £800,000 house where the owner told me he could not afford to replace the boiler when I went there a couple of years ago. Now he has a personal plate Mercedes estate car on the drive, a new brick front wall with metal railings and an electric sliding gate and fancy blue lights which come on as you walk up to the front door.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I will give him another call.

With 2 recent car loans and xmas coming I will find it tight to get a new one but if it comes to that then I will.

Looking through the forums I didn't realise that the boiler I have is so old!

Get Worcester in quick. The most it will cost you is 232.20. Worcester are discontinuing support for this boiler this month.

Run your hot water and see if your 22mm heating flow pipe gets red hot, I doubt it it sounds about right to me. 9.24s are not too bad as long as you can get the right hand side panel off.
