Does anyone have one of these which they think is easy to use and works well and would recommend to others?

I do mean one with the transmitting unit which can be taken from room to room!

A link to the makers web site would be useful.

Can anybody even suggest a make and model ?

Honeywell evohome does this and more.

Graphical user interface, touch screen etc.

I have a Horstmann HRFS1 (if you want a full programmer), and a friend of mine has a HRT4-ZW which is just a basic stat.

Both work well, albeit not the smallest/most portable of things, the HRFS1 has a little stand built in so you can move it around.

My parents also have a Salus RT300RF, which is a basic wireless room stat that also seems to work well, they've never had any trouble with it.

Honeywell CM921 or DT 92E have both and recommend either, although I favor the CM 921

From a "user fiendly" perspective Honeywell takes some beating, but from a reliabillity point of view I'm not so sure sadly! :(

Building regs state that a roomstat or programmable roomstat should be installed in a fixed position, even if it's wireless. Some of my customers enjoy carting theirs from room to room though, as the Salus units I fit do indeed unclip from the bracket as PrenticeBoy points out.

Have you got a reference to that comment.

I enjoy carting mine about as you say, currently it's sat in the bedroom 8) reading 20c

Thanks all for those suggestions.

Now I have a list to work down.

Whilst the Salus are far cheaper they seem to have a reputation for unreliability. Although no one above has commented on reliability.

I have one fitted at home, had it about 3 years, never been a problem and three properties that I manage have them in, maybe a year old, never been an issue, once the tenant has understood how to program them.

Every Salus programmable stat I've fitted has had to be replaced as they went faulty. However I've heard that the non programmable ones are more reliable, but have never had the confidence to fit them. I always use Honeywell nowadays.

All the Salus RT500s I have fitted are still working fine. The reference for fixed position was from my Gas Safe Inspector. He said mobile roomstats don't comply with the building regs. There's a reference in CHeSS to roomstats, which I think is sponsored by DEFRA. Basically it gives an optimum position for siting roomstats (including wireless) away from draughts, 1.5m above the floor, no TRV on radiator, away from other direct heat, living space of regular occupancy etc etc, usual stuff. I think the fixed position is a should rather than a must, cos I had a trawl through heating in building regs after my "telling off", and couldn't seem to find anything concrete.
Anyway, going from what's in CHeSS, it's pretty clear that that a mobile roomstat won't work effectively. Common sense stuff really, I suppose.
If anyone has any other references about fixing the position of wireless roomstats, it would be be much appreciated.

Parents RT300RF has been installed since Jan 2009 with no issues.

They dont tend to move it around, it just sits beside the TV in the sitting room, and the TRV on the rad in the sitting room stays fully open.

Perhaps not in the normal context of a room stat.

But its a great way to get the heating off when you get into the bed. I hate trying to sleep in a hot room. You also get more cuddles when its cooler!

And to get the heating on again in the morning without getting out of bed!
