I take your point with this, sorry about your experience with the 5 zone heating system, sounds like a nightmare, but probably as a result you're not phased by such trifles any more lol!

Think it will be a start from scratch job, trace out and label up as I go along, fingers crossed!

Do as dan says and follow the honeywell wiring for a Y plan. This is industry standard these days, maybe not officially, but generally accepted.

I'll let you know how I get on, although might be a few days before I get sorted!
 
finally got sorted and believe it or not it was the valve that had been assembled incorrectly by the manufacturer!
So a lot of pain and suffering for nothing, I think it was suggested the valve was the wrong way around which turned out in a way to be correct!
