We have a large teak antique dining table that I'd like to protect from scrapes, heat etc.

We currently use pads and then a table cloth but because we use the dining table a lot the pad and cloth tend to stay on all the time and we can't see the beauty of the table top in all it's glory.

Ideally I'd like a single sheet of transparent material e.g. glass or plexiglass but I've heard this could be really expensive and I can't find anyone who might supply this on the internet anyway.

Is there anything else we could do so that we could use the table day-to-day yet not have to cover it to obscure the table top itself? We use it for meals obviously but also for a place to put the laptop on, do some office work etc.

I'd be happy to put anything hot like drinks etc on their own mat but anything else I'd like to put directly on to the table top and not worry it will get scratched or stained etc.

Cheers
Kenny
