Pull Cord Lightswitch

Hi

I have a pull cord lightswitch which has been there since I moved in 30 years ago. It has 2 terminal leads for a red and a black but on the new lightswitch I have bough to replace it (since it does not work anymore) it has F1, F2 and a common terminal. Could anyone tell me which wires connect to which terminals as there are no instructions?

The markings are probably L1 & L2.

Red to Common, black (with a bit of red sleeving on it) to either L1 or L2, doesn't matter which.
