Hi,
I am new to the forum, I am a CORGI registered engineer, but have not worked on a Puma 80e before yesterday, I have searched the forums but have some specific questions that I would appreciate some advice on before I go back.
Symptoms:
- Prior to me going there: Central Heating came on for a minute and then shut off, did this for most of the day.
- When i got there, the boiler did that once, then fired and stayed on. I checked the sensors (both had same resistance), checked the board - no evidence of burn or dry joints), no dripping taps, I couldn't see or replicate a fault.
-Later in the evening, the customer rang me back telling me that there was nothing happening when CH is demanded, nothing at all (no burner on light, not even for a second and no sound from the boiler, so i'm assuming nothing started at all (no pump, fan etc). Then i asked him to run the DHW for a bit, then switch the Room stat on and off again and it fired and stayed on again.
Now from reading the forum entries, i'm suspecting that the wax diverter could be sticking in DHW mode when the boiler is not used for some time, however i am a little puzzled as "nothing" happend at all when the CH was demanded and i assumed that if the wax capsule was stuck it would not stop the boiler firing - but make it shut down quickly due to the flow restriction.
what I would really like is a little advice on this and for someone to let me know if the wax divereter hits a flow switch to make the CH come on? As from reading the forums, it tells me that a faulty diverter will stop the heating, but I just want to know whether it would stop it from even attempting to fire. I am a little puzzled, as everything else checked out ok on first inpsection.
Thanks in advance,
Kal
