All systems are now pumped. Differences are now if the system is sealed, you have a filling loop (to manually add water to the system as required), a pressure gauge and an expansion vessel. An open vented system has none of these, instead the system is topped up via a Feed and Expansion system, which also allows the room for the heated water to expand. This system works at atmospheric pressure.
The pump, regardless of which type of system you have is there to move the heated water away from the boiler and around the radiators/through the coil in the cylinder.
