Just had to replace the battery on my late 2004 Punto. Think it's the original. Is 5 years about average? Normal mix of driving. Anyone had one longer or even shorter length of time? £80 Halfords, had to go there because of the time.
5 years is perfectly ok for a battery life....some last longer (original Japanese) and some don't. It largely depends on how many cold starts the battery has had, and how long the car has had long runs, keeping the battery constantly charged.
As for the value, there's no particular retail price for a battery (like tyres) - if you shop around, you'll get cheaper. I used to find that Costco (Bosch calcium) were good value.

If you are choosing a replacement battery, regardless of what claims are made, go for the heaviest one, the ammount of lead it contains is directionally proportional to its capacity and life.
Battery on most puntos are small and square( uk 002 if memery serves me right.) If you modify the battery box you can fit an 065 battery which has more than enought juice. Should cost about £40/50 from a good factors with 2/3 warranty.
You need to throw away the shroud round the battery and make a wee modifacation to secure the battery. You want a good 063 in there, an 065 is too big.
To be honest the right battery for the punto is more than enough (banner starting bull 54008) . I have seen puntos and cinqs still starting when they are sitting around 200cca. We sell the battery for around £45 plus the dreaded with a three warranty and they plop right in.
