Push Fit Stop Cock/Tap to Replace Old Sized One

Hi,

I'm looking to replace this mains stop cock/tap. I can isolate the water from the water meter outside in order to change it.

I was wondering whether to cut the pipe either side and install a push fit version, but am not sure what are suitable, say for example from Speedfit?

Any pointers? I'm not sure whether the incoming copper pipe is 1/2" or 15mm either?

Fit one that has 15 mm compression fittings ,will fit both 15mm and 1/2 inch pipe.
If however ,if the pipe is larger ,like 3/4 inch or 22 mm you would need an olive to suit.

Thanks, I was hoping for a plastic one with push fit, they always seem less likely to corrode and seize. Just wondering if there is such a thing. It's definitely 15mm or 1/2"

That's a Yorkshire 501 stop tap so could be either 1/2 in or15 mm.
It's just possible the incoming side could be soft copper (not easy to deal with)
I would personally replace the head with one from a current pegler 15mm stoptap its still made to old bs 1010 standard and would fit strait in.

Don't use push fit. Try to use a 15mm lever valve. If there is no movement in the pipe when cut, then use a slip compression coupling as well

Ah, that sounds like a great option..... saves messing with the pipework! I've never done such a thing before, is it just a matter of unscrewing the head?

I wouldn’t use pushfit on that copper tube, too many potential problems that may stop the “O” ring from sealing.

I would opt for a Pegler or similar quality 1/4 turn lever valve, compression.

Try this. It is a matter of unscrewing the head, but could be tough. I would personally douse in a lubricant first.
