Putting a socket in a toilet

Our downstairs WC has been newly renovated and we/the builders forgot to put in a radiator. We didnt realise how cold it could get! However, recently had a bright idea, to put in a socket, and plug in a radiator when needed.

1. Would this conform to Building Regs? IF relevant, there is no sink in the WC, just a toilet.

2. How complicated/expensive a job is this? There is currently a light switch on the wall facing the toilet - on the other side of this wall is the boiler, fusebox, and other electrics (timeswitches etc).

I can't imagine that complies with building regs, nowhere to wash your hands, dirty boy.

The loo is really small (partly under the stairs). We took out the existing corner sink and put a nice big shiny one in the hall just outside the loo

You can put a socket in the wc it must rcd protected, and I suggest its at least 500mm above the pan.

Thanks - now another question - how easy to put a socket onto tiled walls? Will a tile have to be totally smashed and relaid or can a neat surgical hole be created (i'm hoping). Although probably this belongs in the 'Tiling' sub-forum

Hmm, was afraid of that.
Is there any way to somehow open the light switch and run cables through the cavity there, then replace it with a switch and socket?

You must not connect 13A sockets to lighting circuits.

Agreed, I was just asking if there would be space to run both cables through the same cavity to the other side

If you have a cupboard backing on to the room you could cut out for the backbox (may be able to cut out a tile if you are careful) and take the wire straight through, surface mounting it on the other side of the wall.

Brighter idea - install an FCU, a flex outlet plate if needed for the location of things, a slimline panel heater and a room thermostat.

Could you just install a radiator or towel rail from the central heating?
