Hello

I had my kitchen ceiling skimmed a couple of weeks ago.

The stuff which the ceiling was treated with prior to skimming (presumably PVA? I never watched him, I just let him get on with it) has streaked in places down my walls (which are painted with vinyl emulsion)

I went round the kitchen and scraped the end bits off with a sharp blade (the bits at the end of the streaks that had formed hard little 'drops') but I haven't been able to wash the streaks themselves off. I've tried warm soapy water with a sponge scourer to no avail.

In a few weeks I'll be looking to re-paint the kitchen walls so how should I prep the walls bearing in mind the streaking? Do I sand the streaks down? I don't want to just go ahead if the new paint won't adhere properly to the pva streaks and will just show through.

Thank you.

Sand down and apply a coat of Zinsser Coverstain this will dry in about and hour and can then be over painted with any finish you like.

Thank you for the response (it went so long without a suggestion that I eventually stopped checking, lol).

Do you mean sand down all the walls, or just where there's streaking?
