its ok to add a socket, a light etc

its not ok to work in special locations or special installations

Read in full says you can add a light, a switch, a socket outlet, a fcu or a radial circuit but not in a kitchen, special location or part of a special installation.

He can replace an existing shower with one of the same rating without notification. He can replace a heater with one of the same rating without notification. He cannot add a new shower nor a new heater without notification. He can replace a light fitting with a suitable one without notification. He cannot add another light fitting without notification.

you are right, sorry .... seems pretty stupid to me to make legislation and still allow people to replace things.. they can replace them incorrectly.

I've seen that website before, if you burrow deep enough you find its sponsored by a trade association with a interest in drumming up work for electrical contractors. You'll notice it also has an 0870 phone no which enables them to make a bit of extra profit by overcharging people who phone them.
