Hi All,

Hope you might be able to offer me a bit of help.

I had a Steinel PIR floodlight fail, not the first time, but each time customer services have replaced them, can’t fault them there.

An old XLED 2XL failed and it’s been replaced with a newer model. I was hoping it would be a straight swap, but the terminal blocks differ.

The old light was switch operated, off operated on PIR, on was permanently on.

The old light had 4 terminals on the wiring block, live, neutral, earth and switched live. This is where they differ. The new one has 3 terminals: live, another point that has both live and earth symbols and a neutral.

And this is where my confusion comes from. I haven’t found any reference via search to new Steinel lights not having an earth, but is this the case here if I want to operate it on switched live like before? Steinel instructions are vague and light (if you forgive the pun) at best.

many thanks

Thanks very much for your reply and taking the time to look.

Those instructions are more thorough than the ones I have. Diagrams 5.8 to 5.14 are what I have been supplied with but the actual terminal block is different in the flesh. I don’t have the unit to hand, but from memory the top terminal is “L”, the middle one has an “L” then and apostrophe type symbol followed by an earth like symbol. The 3rd and bottom terminal is labelled “N”.

Fine. L’ will be your switched live.

The new light is Class II and doesn’t need an earth. Bring the earth into the light and terminate it in a bit of insulated terminal block. It may be needed for testing or if the next light you buy does need an earth!

Light replaced and appears to be working ok. Thanks again for you help!
