but what does SEDBUK stand for ?

and if a boiler is say 93% efficient how is this calculated ?

Thanks in advance

S easonal E fficiency D omestic B oilers U K (united kingdom) police state!
93% is the efficiency recorded by independant testing at BRE (Building Research Establishment) 93% is Band A - just as well as that's all you can fit now!! ;)

Brilliant man thank you

Next question

OK then it is 93/100 or 93% but 93% of what ?

Does that make sense ?

Efficiency % is Output/Input x100.

Input is obtained by measuring the gas flow rate through the boiler then doing some maths. You need to know the specific heat capacity of natural gas (the number of megajoules per cubic metre).

Output is measured under lab conditions in a standard system specified by the appropriate European/British Standard.

The Sedbuk A-G rating have now been abandoned in favour of actual percentages. The method of calculating the rating has also been changed. For more info see SAP2009 Ratings.
