Hello folks,

Having our garden re-done at the moment.

However, I am unsure if the builders are doing the right things.

The new concrete path in the middle of the garden, he says the slabs would wobble a bit for few days until the cement is fixed. Is this true?

Shouldn't the slabs in the path be strong and firm without wobbly from day one?

Also with the new turf, he is filling up shallow ground with old turf and then he would apply new soil and compact it. Wife is worried that old seeds from the old turf would break into the new turf? is her suspicion right? The builder is saying no need to worry as the old seeds won't do that.

He is completing the job in two days.

Thanks.

When the slabs are laid the mortar under them will be soft for the rest of the day and so they should not be walked on but after 24 hours they should not wobble at all and any movement means the flag will need to be lifted and re-laid.

It is complete nonsense that they will wobble a bit for a few days, if they wobble they need re-laid.

As for the grass, upturning and burying old sods isn't really a problem if they are deep enough. generally though I would spray a lawn with weedkiller first before doing this though.
