We are have a full rewire done. All but one estimate have included 2 interlinked smoke detectors and a heat detector. The estimate we got from an electrician who actually came across really well didn't. So we're now in a dilemma wondering why he wouldn't include them as a matter of course. What else might he be missing? Should we avoid???

You can't think the worst of him because he omitted to quote for a few detectors.

You didn't have them before, and presumably you haven't asked for them. Unless this is some kind of major refurbishment or extension, I don't suppose there is a requirement for them. He may be thinking he's saving you unnecessary work.

However, since you are having a complete re-wire done, this is a golden opportunity to have them installed. It would certainly be a better job.

Why don't you ask this electrician to include them in the job?

Well it just seems everyone else had the forsight and diligence to recommend them. The house is being completely gutted so now would seem the obvious time to fit them.

Also, after doing a bit of digging, I'm not able to find any trail of this guy on the Internet. He reckons he's Part P qualified, but I can find him on their register. Also reckons he's NAPIT and NICEIC but he's not on their site either.....Getting very antsy about using him now. All this coupled with the fact that he added VAT to amount he gave us verbally and then rolled over and knocked it off as soon as I questioned it.
