Hi all,

Gas engineer has told me I need some boiler parts to pass my landlord cert. He's normally pretty good but it's pricey so I thought I'd run it by you if I may.

It's a Vaillant Ecomax 824/2E boiler and apparently I need:

  • Gaskets
  • O rings
  • Trap
  • Vessel
  • Case

He said it looks like the previous tenants have been at it.

Parts came in at £394 inc. VAT.

Seems fair or hard to say?

Many thanks,
Sean

Hard to say. Which gaskets? Which o-rings? How many? The Plumb Center retail price on the casing is £250 and the expansion vessel £160. You don't technically need the EV to pass your LGSC inspection, but it'll shorten the life of your boiler if you don't get it done

Can't see how he is making any money at that price. As said, the case is very expensive.

Don't blame the engineer...blame vaillant. The ecomax case insulation is known to self-destruct after 8 years so they charge a bundle for a new one.

I would not recommend a Vaillant boiler to anyone.
