No wind up bengasman, I only posted the price of gas to highlight my problem

My real question is if I add another two radiators under the bay window do you think this will reduce my gas bill.
I know more radiators means more gas to heat them up but this should heat the room quicker and stay warmer for longer meaning the boiler wont be running so long trying to keep the room at the desiered temp through one radiator, or am I just talking rubbish

You guys are the experts and I`m looking for advice

It is not physically possible to use this much gas in a setup like you described unless you are deliberately trying to sabotage things, and
even then you would have a hard job doing it.

Apart from that, everybody knows that the normal bill would be 10 - 20% of yours, and I find it hard to believe that anyone would be dumb enough to pay thousands of pounds per year and not realise something was wrong.

Like I said, this has to be a wind up.

Back to normality, adding rads will increase heat output and cost more. But compared with the whole house heat needs will be only a very few percent.

There is something seriously wrong with your gas bill.

Did you note the reading of the removed meter?

You could be the subject of a meter readings scam.

What monthly payment did you make last year?

I agree with the other posters,you really need to get this gas bill checked,its way out,i know people who have had the same problem,it was all down to either mis reading,confusing M3/Ft3,or theyve got your address mixed up with someone else,get it checked,soon.

So your monthly bill should not be much more than £50-60.

Spread over one year this is £50 per month. So If you paid £100-110 per month you would pay it off in one year.

Do you keep your gas bills? Check them to see when the last actual, not estimated, reading was taken.

I got a new meter fitted last month now reading M3

Just read this. So they took a reading when the meter was changed.

They have been underestimating your usage, or you did not increased your direct debit as prices went up, and now it's catch up time.

If the last actual readings was over a year, I would ask for two years to pay the £600. I have been paying off arrears on a water bill for over three years. The water company made a mistake and I refused to pay anything until they put it right - took them nine months to sort out.

If you get estimated bills in future, take a reading yourself, phone the supplier up and ask for a revised bill based on your actual readings.

If your house is not insulated, get it done. There are plenty of deals available from utility companies and the government. Check out Search for Grants and Offers

Hi I work away from home so I spoke to my wife tonight, she spoke with the gas company and gave them the reading according to them we have used 100.67cubic m in the last 38days.

Sounds quite normal. I live in the Sunny South and my recent usage was

October month to date 2.4 m/day

Yours is 2.65 m/day

If you want to challenge Estimates you need to arm yourself with Actual Meter readings.

If your supplier is British Gas/Scottish Gas they have a very good online access to input and view meter readings. SSE/Atlantic/Hydro allows online input but you can't view them (I have complained)

I put mine in at least once a month, you can put them in every week or every day if you want to.

But look up your old bills and see what Actual readings you have got.

I was notfied that I`m in £600 debit this is why my bill is going up to £341 I wish it was a typo.

Depending on whether this is a 6 monthly or annual re-assessment, they could potentially be trying to recover your debit over 6 months at 100 per month, than adding extra to go towards your true consumption to prevent it happening again. Its worth querying so you know how much you've actually fallen short by over how long. Once you know that you may be able to negotiate a better payment.

I got a new meter fitted last month now reading M3, I still think it has to do whith the lounge radiator not giving enough btu out, thus making the boiler come on more often to try and heat this room.

It could also be worth checking the removal reading they recorded for your old meter, the fitter should have left you a card / label.

I realise this isn't answering your original question but these used to be some of the biggest causes of dispute at the gash company i used to work for.
