Hi all

I'm going about replacing old radiators in our house and a couple of them are set quite close to the wall meaning that the new rads sit about 10mm too far forward for the existing pipework. I don't really want to call a plumber out to adjust the piping as that seems a bit excessive and I don't want to force them onto the valves either. Ideally I'd like to buy some shallower brackets (20mm) but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Thanks for the speedy response Jon. I have seen these in my searches but can't tell how deep they are? I guess they're not expensive and could give them a go.

Cheers

If the pipes are coming up through the floor you can often get enough movement on them simply by enlarging the hole.

cut the brackets and weld them 9mm shorter (allows for a 1mm grinder blade). how are you doing for imperial/metric length equivalents?

you can also saw new slots into the brackets, or reshape the existing ones, which might be easier if you are not equipped to weld. Somebody gave me that tip when I was changing rad valves and the pipes came out of a concrete floor and had no movement.

A hacksaw and file will do it, though a bit tedious.

Rasping out floorboards may be easier if you can wiggle the pipes, as Sooey says.
