Radiator Lugs

I hope this does not sound a little stupid-but I need to ask a simple question as it is bugging me:

Radiators come with brackets (usually all do) - but what are lugs and what are they for. Do all radiators come with lugs or just certain ones?

are you talking about the plasic lugs that fit to the brackets to keep the rad steady.

They all come with them. They are just for a bit of protection and stop any potential vibrations when the rads heats up.

oh ok, so when the radiator hangs on the brackets, these lugs just clip on somewhere?..

they clip in the groove that the rad sits in

yes that is correct, they are usually little plastic things which come with a rad when you buy it. some people forget to use them but they do make a difference, apparantly!

I was told they are to accommodate thermal expansion of the rad, the plastic is easier to slide over than metal to metal contact would be.

Sorry to disagree with everyone, but lugs are the metal pieces on the back of the radiator which clip onto the wall brackets. If a radiator had no lugs, you could not hang it on the bracket!

The plastic bits are called inserts, and are to minimise noise when the radiator expands and contracts.

now there was me thinking lugs were what protruded out the back of single panels, & you screwed the rad valves in to.
