I've got a radiator that has been removed from the central heating system for the last year that i'm planning to attach back to the system next weekend. I was just wondering if i should use some hammerite rust remover before doing this? It has been kept indoors during this period.

If it has been kept dry it should have rusted little during that time.

If you wanted to remove most of the oxide you could plug one end and pour a solution of citric acid ( Fernox DS40 ) into it, perhaps 50-100g and leave for a few days agitating every few hours.

But if you do that you will have bare metal so ensure inhibitor is aded.

In reality there is not really any need to do anything other than washing through to remove any loose particles.
