I need to remove a number of radiators for a month or so. Does anyone have any tips for storing them so they don't rust on the inside? I mean, if I take them off, is it just a matter of getting as much water out of them as possible and leaving it at that, or is there anything else I can do?

I've seen a couple of radiators that have been left disconnected for an extended period and the amount of rust was such that I wouldn't really fancy re-connecting them to my neat, tidy and pretty new central heating system.

If no-one has any advice, I was planning on disconnecting, tipping out as much water as I can, and just leaving in the sun for the day in the hope that dries the inside out.

Cheers for any replies.

Stand then upside down and leave them filled with water that contains inhibitor. Flush with mains water before refitting.

Creatively you could

Purge air, fill with pure nitrogen or helium, then seal.

Fill with oil or molten wax

Attach a sacrificial anode

Store it on the moon

But I would suggest tipping any crud and water out and then relaxing in the summer sun.

Haha. Thankyou.

I like relaxing in the sun bit ,if they are full of water they can't rust

The OP has a fair point - there was a small development of Bungalows built in Essex a few years ago using Radiators that had been previously filled with water and then stored before being finally fitted in said new houses, we made some good money as one by one the radiators all started leaking prematurely the advice given to fil them with inhibitror/water is good advice!
