rafter birdsmouth bearing

    Would a 3 1/2" birdsmouth bearing be enough from the rafter to the wall plate? I.e 3 1/2" of the rafter is touching the wall plate.Rafters are 6x2.

    Sounds like an ideal seat cut to me.

    The pitch of the roof determines the length of the seat cut. The lower the pitch the longer the seat cut.

    Measure two thirds down from the top of the rafter and set your birds mouth out from that mark.
