My PC has 4 memory slots with 2 x 512MB installed with the other 2 empty. I would like to add extra memory and the max specification says 4GB is possible. Could I add an extra 1GB module along with the 2 x 512MB and not cause any problems?

Thanks

Its possible, but your best route would be to add another matched pair of 512MB.
Use this site to check out what you have, and what you will need.

As a matter of interest, unless you are running a 64 bit version of windows, your system will only recognize up to 3 to 3.5GB.

With 1GB DIMMs retailing for around £30 a stick, you would be better off removing the 512 sticks and inserting two new 1GB sticks. Also check the max spec (PC2700, 3200 etc) and if your motherboard supports DDR.
