However, at the minute i have a problem, aside from the sight glass had a chip out of it and i'm waiting for that to be replaced here is the current operating conditions.

Ravenheat LS80 on NG

Initial switch on it fires, although i think it's waiting too long to fire because what happens i can only call a flash over, like the chamber is filling with gas and then it's eventually ignited, chamber flexes etc etc. Then it burns for a few seconds happily, then goes off, then attempts to re-ignite and fails with a flame out problem.

Anyone got any initial thoughts, i was thinking the ignition circuitry or the ignitors themselves but if it's going to end up costing me more than say £30 quid, i`ll wait the week till i have the worcester installed.

Whilst on the subject, am i right in my understanding that i can do all the wet work as long as the gas is done by someone registered?? I know the whole registration/organisation thing is a bit of a hot potato here so not wishing to kick that off, but i would happily connect the gas and snoop it for leaks before attempting to comission the boiler.

All suggestions, including pay someone and avoid blowing your head off appreciated.

Wait the week for your new worcester and make do. Why throw any more hard earned money away

Its a pity that you are changing that boiler.

Its a very simple fairly recent boiler and quite capable of many more years of good service.

It sounds as if the problem is that you are not prepared to pay a competent person to sort out what is going to be a very minor problem perhaps only associated with the flame detection.

To correctly fit a new boiler you need the CORGi to fit the mounting bracket to the wall, fit the flue, fit the gas, commission the boiler and notify CORGI.

We would do that for about £180 based on two visits. The first is to check that the proposed position is able to meet the regulations.

However, few CORGIs want to get involved in that situation mostly because they have had a bad experience with the DIYer doing the job so badly and wasting the CORGI time.

I made a mistake once and went without realising that he had not filled the boiler with water. He waited for me to come and then filled it and almost all the rad connections were leaking. There was a missing drain cock and lots of water came out of that on the carpet. I had to tell him to sort all the leaks out and call me again when it was finished.

I do appreciate what you are saying, as it is i have bitten the bullet and asked for a quote to replace pipe run from meter to boiler location and installation of boiler.

I'm sure the boiler is capable of providing a good few years of reliable service, but at the minute it's refusing point blank to do anything, and it's not only a flame detection problem. The microswitch on the dhw valve to kick the boiler into action isn't operating, unless i pop it and press it of course which is hard to do standing under the shower.

It doesn't look to have been very well maintained if at all, there is a slight water leak from the CH connections and the 3bar pressure regulator isn't operating as expected, with 1.4 bar in it's dripping like a 4yr olds nose.

I could replace the regulator, replace the dhw demand valve, replace the glass, and then possibly the gas regulator, flame sense electrode only to find other problems like the heat exchanger is leaking.

The engineer is coming out tomorrow to quote on fitting the worcester 37CDI and pipe in 22mm gas main, might ask him to fit 28 due to the distance involved, and the fact it runs from one end of the house to the other.

More peace of mind than anything, i'll have the paperwork to give me the 2 year guarantee on the boiler, and a more powerful shower, and god knows i get dirty.

Cheers

Get the new Worcester Bosch, the warranty and the peace of mind. Better boiler, better made, when you sell the house it will get an approving glance rather than the look of trepidation from potential buyers.
