Thanks for that. Back to that line tester that had lain in my garage for years and just showed a reading of OL - no beeping or anything like that. Do these things have a power source (e.g. lithium battery)? Is such a battery replaceable or does the tester just eventually need replaced?

They need a battery to work. There's probably a place in the back for a new one to go.
