Hi, looking for some advice on re-laying a parquet floor.

A house demolition has liberated some parquet floor which was originally layed on concrete using bitumen. I would like to relay in a house on top of floorboards and wondered if this was possible? The house a 1930's semi had originally parquet in every room so assume  no problems would be encountered?

Any tips or advice on pattern styles (herring bone in old house) and adhesives?

Cheers

Best is to install plywood first over existing floorboard to prevent 'flex'. Screw down the sheets (12mm ply)

Cheers for the advice. Two further questions.

1. How do I get the bitumen off without damaging the tongues or blocks?
2. Where in the room do you start? do you work out from the middle, or lay the parallel wall blocks first?

Thanks

1) Lots of 'elbow grease' I'm afraid. Chisel etc

2) Herringbone: in the middle of the room, other patterns vary
