Hi there, am new to this section of the forum as am complete ignoramus when gardening.

If you have a rubbish lawn with pronounced highs and lows, areas of new soft lawn next to old established( if bumbpy) lawn and its a mowing nightmare, whats the best way to end up with a flat uniform surface?

Keep mowing and get a roller, or relay the whole lot?

If so do you remove the old turf completely or do you just rotavate?

I don't want crown green, I just want something I can mow low without carving bits out of the bumps/

Thanks

You won't be surprised to hear that "it depends".

On how much work you wanna do or how much patience you have. Stripping it all off and replacing once you have rotavated and raked till your palms are one big blister is the best possible solution if you want it sooner rather than later.

Alternatively, top dress in the autumn for a few years, and you'll have a lovely smooth lawn.

Take your pick.
