Hi,
About three years ago I changed the float and valve system inside my toilet for a Torbeck - style one (from Wickes if I recall).

After about a year it went faulty - the toilet would not fill up.
Or rather, it would not fill up quickly in the intended way but water would leak from near where the float arm enters the valve and it would take around 10-15 mins to fill the tank (as opposed to the usual 10-15 seconds!).

Anyway, I bought a new one from Wickes (yes, the whole thing) and replaced everything.

A few months later it went again, exactly the same.

This time I thought it must be the diaphragm failing to move to let water through the valve so I replaced only the diaphragm and all was well for around 6 months.

Now it has gone again!!

What is the solution to this? Am I using inferior diaphragms? Or valves?

Please help, it's driving my family mad!

Many thanks.

have you taken it apart and looked for dirt, grit and sediment?

Some Torbeck valve have a filter on the inlet - this could be blocked.

I have removed the diaphragm, inspected it and replaced it but not checked the inlet filter which I will do next.

Buy a decent ball valve from Plumb Center. Plastic torbecks are always failing.

I'm guessing you have hard water where you live?
