Re-Opening Bricked up window

Hi

we've just unbricked a window opening in our victorian house with the intention of fitting a new UPVC window to match the rest of the house.

unfortunately we've now got a big hole as blocks were used and extended into the rest of the brick work.

is it ok to put a wood lining in the window space, replace the bricks from the wall up to it, then insert the window into this liner?

Use the timber frame as a size guide to brick too but i would'ent leave it in place after that.

have just realised I've not explained fully so your answer makes sense!

the wood liner is behind the first row of bricks so will not be visible when the window goes in (our walls are double brick with no cavity), it will be plasterboarded over after the window is fitted.

Do you mean the brickwork is stepped with a larger hole in the back layer? If so this was to accomodate the sashboxes. You can use timber as you said or brick them up.
