how hard would it be to re-paint a bath in white?

my mom and dad are replacing their steel bath with a shower stall, and I currently have a naff fiberglass bath in my flat ( council issue.. ) and would like to swap them..
the problem is that mothers bath is sort of advocado green...
I would like a white one so I would need to get it done..

could a car place do it? or is it a job for a specialist bath place?

would it just be cheaper to buy a new one?

Buy a new one.
No point painting a bath then having it installed, its the install that is costly & if you can do it yourself, then a new bath isnt a lot of £££

It would probably cost you more to get it sprayed up; you can buy a new steel bath for under a ton these days.....

Either way you are going to have to recycle something! Either the avocado green steel bath or your white acrylic one.
yes but if I re-use moms bath rather than buy a new on then there's only my acrylic one going to the landfill, not hers as well..

And remember there are lots of ways to recycle, recycling doesn't mean keeping something you don't want for the good of the environment!
but I do want it, just not that colour.. think of all the CO2 I'm saving by not having to process the steel and cast and transport a new bath to me..

You could always give the old steel bath to a farmer, they are always on the look out for new steel baths/troughs in good condition. Or you could advertise it in the free ads, some silly b*****r would probably love a 70s retro item, especially if they have matching bathroom ware!
good idea.. they might like the green loo and sink too.. ( no point having a nice white shower with green loo and sink.. )

Also bear in mind that recycling keeps people in a job, so you would actually be benefiting the economy as well as having your unwanted items being melted down and reused.
sqrew the economy, what about the planet? ;)
the bath my parents have was made in britain.. the new one would likely be made in spain or china or somewhere..

i did this a few years ago when i moved into my first flat. there is a kit called (as i recall) tubby bath paint or similar. Very easy to use but you need to do it right. I got the best results by doing it then leaving a heater in the room for about a day to really bake the paint dry.

found a link to it!

But as the kits are between £55 - £65 you may as well buy a new bath? You can get them from £70 on fleabay.

If you weren't moving the bath then I would definately recommend the Tubby kit and painting the outside with Hammerite. I've done this to a few baths and the end result has always been good - but not to a green bath? - may need a few more coats?

Unless it were a nice roll top cast iron bath I can't see the reason to paint the outside with Hammerite. The OP said it is a steel bath.....
