Re-using cooker cable

Hi,

I've decommissioned cooker socket as old kitchen is being converted to bedroom. However, I need a new 30 Amp double power socket not far from the old cooker point.

I see that the cooker cable wires are much thicker than the standard power circuit cable - can I re-use the cooker cable to power a standard socket? If so, this would save lots of time hunting for the 30 Amp power cable to spur into.

You can reuse it, but ideally you will change the fuse at the board if the circuit is fused above the 30 amp requirement for a socket circuit.

And the circuit will need to be RCD protected. All socket circuits must now have RCD protection.

And it will need testing for continuity, insulation resistance, fault loop impedance and polarity.

Not sure what you mean by 30A socket, do you mean a 30A circuit?

You probably meant 13 amp socket, on a 30 amp circuit.
