A bit spoilt for choice. If he wants to he can use a simple stat with the onboard Bluetooth timer but it will not be OpenTherm
The plug-in Wi-Fi key giving remote control will be available soon but the new RF OpenTherm stat may be a while. I have trial versions and they look ok but as I say it might be a while yet.
If he wants a room stat timer the EPH is a good pack, can be OpenTherm and can be internet connected with accessories.
I used a Honeywell T4 stat on a different boiler which seemed ok.
Nest using OpenTherm works OK on our boilers.
Or for weather compensation connect an external sensor and use the Bluetooth timer to switch between comfort and setback temperatures.
If you search vulcancontinental on YouTube you’ll find videos on the boiler control, weather comp on the Vibe Max etc and OpenTherm.
