recommend a room thermostat with 0.5C or F increments?

hi

Our Drayton thermo leaves our house too cold when its set to 19C and too hot at 20C. Are there any thermos that have smaller increments? Or maybe one that does F might fix the problem? We like to be able to program days individually. Our boiler is vaillant ecotec.

you will need several degrees difference to go from hot to cold so it must be jumping say 5 or 7 degrees when you move it only 1

its in the hallway and that is by far the coldest part of the house and is quite large so takes some time to rise even 1 degree in temp. In the meantime the surrounding rooms get a few degrees hotter. we dont have trvs in all the rooms.

a room stat will detect a fraction off a degree as its a bimetal strip that will click in and out within a small range

If the location of the thermostat sometimes causes problems, how about a portable wireless programmable unit?

I believe this one will also respond to a 0.5 C difference.

You don't actually say what type of Drayton thermostat you have but if its a mechanical type then it will have a large differential which means the room temperature will cycle quite widely and result in uncomfortable conditions.
What you want is a digital thermost which will offer much tighter control and more comfort.
The position of the thermostat is very important. Not close to any hot or cold spots in the room. This is where the wireless thermostat comes in handy as it can be located without running cables.
You say its in the hall but since you are sitting in the lounge and not the hall it makes a whole lot of sense to locate it in the lounge.
Most manufacturers will offer wireless/digital thermostats.
If you have a trv in the lounge and you locate the thermostat there you should raise it to the max this allow the stat to control the room temp accurately.

The thermostat is in a long hallway with the rad down one end and the stat 12-15 feet away down the other end! Its digital.

Is fitting a wireless stat something joe public can do or do i need an registered electrician/corgi as it sort-of involves a boiler?

Im trying to avoid getting trvs in the lounge as it seemed the more expensive/hassle option what with a plumber probably having to drain the system & the cost of the trvs etc. I reckon a new stat would be much cheaper. That honeywell one looks good.

update - have just seen the price of the stat so maybe it wouldnt be that much cheaper than trvs

Fitting a wireless thermostat is pretty straight forward. A corgi certified person is not neccessary.
However they are rather expensive and I was wondering if you could merely re-route your thermostat especially as it is digital through the wall into the lounge. I assume its battery operated so will only be a pair of wires to run.
Another idea would be to run a temporary cable on the surface just to try. Just a thought?
A wall mounted stat will give you far better control than trv's. For a start look where they are sensing the temperature just above the skirting board and beside a radiator. Would anyone mount a thermostat there?
They serve a purpose but its more about metering than temperature control.
