With a maximum budget of £100, can anyone recommend a decent router? Typical uses will be for accurate cutting of kitchen worktops, end cladding panels etc. This tool will not get a great deal of use, so I can't justify spending too much.

Are there any advantages to buying a 1/2" router for example as opposed to a 3/8" router?

I recently borrowed a DeWalt 1/2" router to cut my kitchen worktop mitres - a fantastic tool but a bit beyond my budget at around £300!

Any advice or personal experiences much appreciated.

it is possible to get worktop cutters in less than 12.7mm but unusual and you pay through the nose as you have very limited choice

also your router needs to be around 1400w input power [more for cheaper makes perhaps 1600w]

i like the look of the ryobi

i have ryobi as my lighter secondary stuff and am very impressed with it all though i havent got the router i would seriously consider it my self as my "lighter" use router ;)

I've got this one from Axminster:

I haven't had it long and have only used it a few times but it is well built and quite powerful. Well pleased with it, although I only paid £50 for mine (eBay)

Also on eBay theres a bloke who sells Erbauer routers for just £29! He's had good feedback and has sold loads so far, probably reconditioned or discontinued stock.
