Reducing Cable Size

Having recently run a length of 10mm^2 cable from a 45amp MCB to the cooker control unit, and from there to a cable outlet plate.

The cable outlet plate will supply the hob.

I planned on running a further length of 10mm^2 cable from this to an unswitched FCU for the oven supply. But I cannot fit the two 10mm^2 cores into the terminals of the outlet plate.

Is it okay to reduce the CSA of the cables for the short distance, to perhaps 2.5mm^2 or 4mm^2? (less than 0.25m)

If that cable is overload protected by the fuse in the FCU it feeds, and short circuit prtecte by the supply fuse or breaker, then yes, it is acceptable. Not nice, but acceptable.
