reducing size of spindles

i am installing some spindles which need reducing in size as they go up the stairs as they finish under the ceiling. I have chosen some that are fairly plain to avoid problems with the profiles but what is the best way to reduce them in size ?

i assume you mean cut to length!!!!

just use a mitre saw and remember the offcut from second short spindle will probably be long enough to go up in the "V" at the top
