The councillors I knew of back in the day were paid a set amount for each meeting which they claimed for. That was changed to a fixed allowance with more senior public servants getting more if they had specific responsibilities. I’m not bumping my gums.

These were the expenses that previous Mayors met themselves. Scarborough Town Council has very few functions other than looking after a few local amenities. It is more like a parish council.

At the end of the day voters have a vote to cast. I can see why they are getting votes (not mine I hasten to add) but EVERY OTHER PARTY has been less than honest with the UK for decades

Political assistants are unelected politicians, not independent experts. The penny’s dropped that there is no money and no ideas so they are recruiting someone they can externalise the risk to when it all goes wrong.
