Refurb Cast Iron Bath

I have a servicable bath which I was going to get re-enamalled by a company. A friend called today who said that he had seen on the TV that it is possible to buy a complete DIY kit to do this.
Has anyone ever tried this and what were the results?

IMHO not worth the effort I have seen baths done with this and 6 months later they are flaking off, even the professional cold enameling doesn't last long I know someone who had their bath done, the guy said he couldn't guarantee it and sure enough about a year later it was flaking off.
This was a few years ago mind so things may have improved now.
Is this bath something worth keeping such as a claw footed roll top bath, as aperfectly good plain steel bath will only set you back about £80.

really the only way to re enamel a bath is to have it shot blasted, re-annealed and then hot enamelled about £400.

Thanks Chappers.......Will try good clean before spending out....It is only a stop gap until I get round to refurb bathroom, but interested to know what finish would look like.
