Hi
I need to move the doorbell to where it can be heard through the flat. It is mains wired. The transformer is beside the consumer unit and there is a fuse labelled door bell inside the cu.

What I am wanting to do is extend the length of wire to the sounder so that it can be moved to the hallway instead of inside the kitchen.

Is it sufficient to turn off the fuse before moving the sounder? I will happily provide further information if needed, but I would appreciate some reassurance before going ahead.

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

The risk would be shorting the transformer and burning it out, you might also give yourself a tingle off the bell wires if you do it 'live' as it's an inductive load, even though the bell-side of the transformer will only be 8-12 volts.
