Hi everyone.

In the first floor bedroom I was taking up the floorboards to run pipework and noticed the remains of looks like the fireplace coming out around 6" or so.

What is the best way to cover this or do you just leave it as it is?

Below is one of the living rooms which has the chimney breast built into the wall.

If the flue is flush with the wall, its probably the remains of the old hearth sitting on a timber base between the jousts. If so you can carefully chop out the bits that get in the way of the pipe, or just remove them altogether. Explore whats underneath and supporting it first.
