Removal of gas meter, confused?

If a property is converted to all-electric and the gas meter is no longer needed, is there a charge to have the gas meter removed?

Been told if the gas meter is capped off and left in there will be a standard charge payable, but if I want the meter removed and capped off, there is a charge of over £100 by the supplier?

How can they charge for the removal of a meter that is rented to me by charging a standing charge for the meter?

The best option is to look at
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/open-letter-treatment-domestic-households-do-not-use-gas

and find a supplier with a zero standing charge, but higher unit cost.

Or get it capped off by a RGI, then tell supplier to come fetch their meter as you won't be paying for it.
