Any ideas on how to remove a large concrete flagstone that is set into a wooden floor in an upstairs converted flat (Edwardian house). It is on the cure of the wall where the chimney breast runs and I imagine it was once in front of a fireplace which is long gone. The rest of the floors are sanded original boards so any ideas on how to fill the gap left would also help.

i take it you do not want the flag stone? could you not prize it out, failing that hit it with a sledge hammer

If you screw a pair of handles to the flagstone ,like these
or something similar , then you could maybe lift the flag straight upwards and carry it off. You may need to loosen it first if it is bedded in by using a rubber hammer.
