Hello all,

I have removed a concrete block partion wall in the dining room. It wasnt load bearing at all. Now it is removed where it was bedded in there is a black plastic looking thing about 20mm bellow the concrete floor level.

Is this the damp proof?

If so can I just mix up some concrete and trowel it in the gap prior to wood flooring?

Is is usual to find that under a wall?

Thanks in advance.

If its a continuous black membrane then could well be a dpm..
No its not usual to find under a non load bearing wall but does happen.. Normally would indicate a load bearing wall as it would have foundations etc..

Are you sure the wall was non-load bearing? was it a lateral restraint wall?

The wall went the same way across the house as the joists do. I had an engineer round who confirmed that the joist would be fine to span across as I only removed about 95cm of wall. So It may have been partially load bearing although there is no block work or strcture above just stud walls.

I will take a picture later.

Thankss for the responses so far
