Removing a pull cord

Hi All,
I'm after some help in removing a pull cord in a bedroom. There is also a light switch, which is staying. I have disconnected the pull cord and, I guess, unsurprisingly the light switch now doesn't work. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of where the wires terminated in the pull cord.
Once sorted I plan to install 6 x downlights. I know there is no earth, and have purchased the appropriate class 2 lights and will be purchasing another plastic switch.

How should I take the pull cord out of the equation?

Temporarily join the two reds together and leave the black safely terminated.
At the switch, disconnect the black wire from the switch and safely terminate it.

Then when you go into the loft and route cables for the new lights, reconfigure the wiring by disconnecting and removing all unnecessary cables.

Not a good idea in a bedroom. Lying in bed with a spotlight in your eyes is no picnic.

You still need to take an earth wire to each light even if they are class 2, as someone may change them in the future.

From the look of the old wiring, I'll expect that the lighting circuit doesn't have an earth in the first place/

I had downlights in a bedroom, never again. Pointless. Well, handy if your wife wants to wake you up in the morning!

I installed a ceiling fan light a number of years ago, the Mrs hated it at first but likes having the Fan on in Summer so she seems happy with it now. Spotlights in a bedroom seems an awful idea unless they are dimmable

we want a ceiling fan. Had a nice one 2 houses back - if I knew how expensive they are I'd have taken it with me when I sold!
