Soon to move into a house with a 15ft x 30ft in the garden. As much as I want to convince myself to keep it, a combination of running costs, small children, crap weather and its general state of disrepair means it has to go.

Have found many sites in the US/Aus (funnily enough) with specialist companies in this line of work but few in the UK.

Various posts suggest knocking in the walls down a foot or so. Holes in the bottom for drainage. Plenty of hardcore then onto dirt and finally topsoil. Compacting as you go.

Sounds simple enough if a little labour intensive ... not sure I can get a digger into the garden  ... but any other hints and tips from here would be gratefully received. Thanks,

Just a thought ... given access issues would pumping concrete be an idea? No idea if costs rule this out though??

Thanks. Fast and useful replies like that are the reason I have quickly become addicted to this forum. :D

Roof over it with glass, build a set of wide steps down into it s and you've got a ready made semi-submersed sun lounge or green house. If the bottom slopes then build a frame for a suspended floor.

Nice idea but given how much of the garden it already takes up I would like it turfed over so the kids have somewhere to play. Its not even a south facing garden...no idea what the previous was thinking

The Jablite Fillmaster blocks look intriguing. Does anyone have any previous experience of costs with this stuff? An internet trawl has found nothing. Just wanted a rough idea rather than having to get a Jablite salesguy involved (and on my case). Thanks,

Speak to the jablite technical line, they should be able to tell you the most economical sizes to spec as it comes in a variety of sizes, you also need advice as to the density required (though I’d guess the lowest would be fine) then you can speak with some local suppliers and get a firm quote. A jablite rep isn’t like a double glazing salesman, manufacturers rarely supply their own products to Joe Public at competitive prices.

Was thinking some kind of rainwater harvesting in there. House is on a water meter for an extra insentive
